The Intersection of Timekeeping and Bookkeeping
There were two things I was fascinated by as a kid: drums and numbers. My grandfather had played the drums, and my father played the drums. It only made sense, then, that as a young child I was drawn to our basement and started to play on my father’s drumkit. As I began to study music, I was intrigued by the math that’s involved: the whole-steps and half-steps of a melodic scale, and the quarter-, eighth-, and sixteenth-notes (just to name a few) that make up rhythms.
